ASCENS aims to develop a decentralized, dynamic system with intelligent, self-aware nodes which in the scope of this case study is applied to the field of automotive e-Mobility. In order to push innovation as far as possible solutions should be based on the present results achieved in other current EU projects like:

• PreDrive C2X1 (2008 – 2010)
• SAFESPOT3 (2006 – 2010)

These projects provide solutions with respect to both hardware and software communication architecture (C2X). Moreover they drive software harmonization and provide individual application solutions which can be integrated in the holistic ASCENS application ensemble. However, ASCENS goes further in focusing on intelligent behaviour in a complex universe, optimizing both individual and global goals through both local and global intelligence, self-awareness and collective behaviour.
